Stuff Scene Kids Like

“Tweet Tweet!” Is that the sound of nature calling you in all of your pink and green hair extension glory? Nope, its your phone going off because @THE_REAL_SHAQ just twittered about Red Lobster.

What is Twitter? Twitter is blogging reinvented: MICROblogging. Apparently, every scenester’s Livejournal got to be a little too boring, so someone had to come up with a way to find out the basic information about every scenester’s life: “What are you doing?” In 140 characters or less @StevenRadio has to @reply @scenekids with the all the ideas he has for the site, or post about his show going on tonight. Twitter eliminates all the bullshit, and gets straight to the point, keeping tabs on the entire world wide web.

For fangirls Twitter is the ultimate connection with 3oh!3 (or should I say @3oh3PFR). Maybe, JUST MAYBE, since @sc3n3yb34ni3 ’s @reply was so short, she’ll get an @reply back. Or maybe @AlexAllTimeLow will click on her twitpic and @reply her about it.
For musicians, Twitter is great. It enables fans to feel connected, and sends them all text messages about the latest things going on with a band. It’s like having all of your fans’ numbers in a mass text message, telling them to pick up your new album, or read your new post on your cynical culture blog.

Twitter may seem like the greatest thing know to the scene kid. But do not be fooled. Unfourtunately, many scenesters (and Shaq) ask themselves “What are you doing?” too many times per day. Its like “oh, cool, @matteao620 is at a show. Fun” (30 seconds later) “oh, cool @matteao620 just bought merch” (2 mintues later) “OH MY GOD, I DONT CARE THAT SHAANT GOT A NEW HAIRCUT, AND JUST TOLD EVERYONE ABOUT IT DURING THEIR SET”.

The other time that Twitter becomes incredibly aggrivating is when people decide that AIM is just overrated, and airing your conversations in public via Twitter @replies is a better idea. It is not fun when you get text message notifications because people decided to Twitter chat for an hour, and clog your entire text message inbox. Yes, we are all guilty of it (see @keat during the superbowl with @keatonandrew….it was ridic, I apologize to all my followers), but that is why it is important that all you scene beans follow Twitter etiquette, and at least keep your Twitter chats in DMs (Direct Messages, for all you not so Twitter savvy kids…who can’t possibly be scene*~).

Twitter has become a new social networking phenomenon that is taking over the scene realm, wether you like it or not, so stay hip and get yourself an account. (You can start by adding your favorite band dudes, cause they all have widgets on their band Myspaces, and us: @scenekids.)
