American Apparel and Alcoholics Anonymous might as well be synonymous, because once a scene kids gets his hands and credit card on some ultra soft, American made, American Apparel gear, it takes over his closet and his life. Having encroached on the scene through its supersoft backdrops for the newest Cute is What We Aim For merch designs, AA has taken over ever closet, drawer, and forehead in the scene.

The company that has been around since the late 90’s, has taken over the interwebs and the entire scene populous with its decadent line of colorful shirts and hoodies, and the one and only Deep V (perfect for flaunting your tits all the way onto the tourbus, or into the back of the van). The shirts comfortable and available in every color of the rainbow and then some. In the American Apparel line, there are certain items that scene kids love the most: the ones that make no sense.
Example A: The Dress You Can Fold 30,000 Different Ways.- Yes, i understand there is an instructional video, but I am no good at origami with paper, much less with tying knots and tucking things in and around my boobs to create one of the many possible looks.
Example B: Thigh High Socks.- I do not understand why these are the Myspace default pic craze. I tried a pair on once. Scene kids apparently love spending more time putting on socks than doing their hair and makeup…and trust me, that’s a hell of a long time.
Example C: Booty Shorts for Pop Punk Boys With Really Hairy Legs.- Since when does running around in a banana hammock that matches your tube socks count as fashion? In the scene, everyday. If you can catch Jack Barakat, or Wil Farewell in them kudos for you!

Another epic part of American Apparel, especially within the scene kids is their advertising. American Apparel is like the Abercrombie of the scene with their ads. Their ads usually consist of girls in thongs and tube socks with arched backs and stoned expressions (thank CEO and numero uno pedo, Dov Charney for that one). As any scene kid knows, the best way to your favorite singers heart is through nude pics, and the ads at AA just reinforce that belief, justifying the sweet tittypics she sent to CalebFTSK last week.
American Apparel’s stores are full of coked out hipster employees who sneer at the little scenesters buying Flex-Fleece Hoodies and Lamé headbands, but as much as they scoff, AA is more of a breeding ground for Neons and Scenebeans that it will ever be for Williamsburg trash. American Apparel is to scene kids as peanut butter is to jelly.
